Welcome to Sanuki Malfuji

General Info

Tucked away in the quiet streets of Sanuki Malfuji, this udon noodle restaurant delivers a truly satisfying local dining experience that feels both authentic and comforting. From the moment you arrive, the setting gives off a relaxed, no-frills vibe-exactly what you’d expect from a place focused on doing one thing exceptionally well: udon.

The menu is straightforward but packed with crowd-pleasers. One of the standout choices is the かけうどん大 ちくわ天, where the simplicity of hot broth meets perfectly chewy noodles, paired with a crispy chikuwa tempura that adds just the right crunch. If you’re craving something richer, the 肉 うどん 大 offers a deeper flavor profile, with tender slices of meat soaking into the broth, making every bite more satisfying than the last.

On warmer days, the cold options shine. The 冷やかけ ゲソ is refreshingly light, while the 冷やし肉中華うどん ちくわ天 brings a slightly different twist with its chilled presentation and balanced toppings. For those who want variety in one meal, the ぶっかけうどん 天ぷら チャーハン is a great pick-it combines textures and flavors in a way that feels hearty but not overwhelming.

Beyond the food, the services here make the overall experience even smoother. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or planning to take your meal to go, options like takeout and delivery are available. The restaurant also offers practical amenities such as parking and a clean restroom, which makes it convenient for both locals and travelers exploring the area.

What stands out most in reviews is the consistency. The noodles are always fresh, the portions are generous, and the service is efficient without feeling rushed. The location itself is easy to access, especially if you’re driving through Sakaide, and it fits perfectly into a casual dining itinerary.

Overall, Sanuki Malfuji feels like the kind of place you return to again and again-not because it tries to impress, but because it simply delivers honest, well-made food every time.

What customers say?

“ In a very good way, this is one of those typical Kagawa udon places that will not disappoint you. Fortunately, it isn’t too commercialized yet, so while there can often be a wait, the line doesn’t get too long and they are able to serve people much faster than other places. The food is absolutely delicious - simple, straightforward, but always memorable. Been here twice now, and I suggest getting the 肉ぶっかけ with its smooth, sweet broth. There’s parking in front of the shop, shared with an izakaya on the same property. Payments accepted are by cash and PayPay only. ”

[The extensive menu is appealing! But in the end, the Kake Udon looked the most delicious.] - We ordered Tororo Bukkake (510 yen), Niku Bukkake (510 yen), Tenmusu (190 yen), Quail Tempura (160 yen), and Burdock Tempura (170 yen). - The total bill for two people was 1,540 yen (about 800 yen per person). - Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. In addition to basic udon, there's also Kakema (470 yen), Niku Chuka (560 yen), weekday-only ramen, omelet rice, and more. ・The menu was quite varied, even among Sanuki udon restaurants in Kagawa. ・One of the best deals is the "Family Udon 7-Piece Set (1,100 yen)," a great choice for families. ◆The slightly soft texture, reminiscent of Kyushu udon, is also appealing. ・This time, I ordered two types of udon, "Tororo Bukkake (510 yen)" and "Niku Bukkake (510 yen)," as well as "Tenmusu (190 yen)," and added tempura, "Uzura (160 yen)" and "Gobo (170 yen)." ・The udon noodles were soft, like Kyushu's West Seaweed, but still had a chewy core. ・Honestly, at first bite, I was confused, wondering, "Is this Sanuki udon?", as it was different from my personal image of "stiff Sanuki udon." But as I continued to eat, I was captivated by the exquisite combination of firmness in the core and softness on the surface. Even so, I was still skeptical, wondering if this was really the so-called Sanuki udon. But when I asked a friend in Kagawa, he said, "Wow, you chose Sanuki Marufuji. You really know Sanuki." That made me realize, "Ah, my image of Sanuki udon as being chewy is just my own arbitrary labeling as an outsider. Maybe I was just labeling it the same way Japanese people, Chinese people, Americans, etc." Perhaps the true definition of "Sanuki udon" is determined by the people who live in Kagawa Prefecture, a city overflowing with udon restaurants, and eat udon every day. ◆In the end, the Kake Udon (260 yen) seemed the most appealing. ・The sweet flavor of the Niku Bukkake, the refreshing taste of the Tororo Bukkake, the rich flavor of the Gobo Tempura, and the simply seasoned Quail Tempura were all delicious. ・But after eating a variety of dishes and feeling full, I saw a simple Kake Udon being enjoyed by a local sitting on the other side of the counter, and thought, "Ah, I want to eat that..." ・Even though I had eaten the richly flavored food and was full and satisfied, the sight of the Kake Udon noodles sparkling in front of me made me think, "I want to eat that." ・I see, my brain properly grasps the "simple core flavor" hidden within the richly colored flavor, and responds by saying, "That's what I should eat." ・I regretted having eaten a menu item that was too fancy for my first visit. ・If I had followed my brain's reaction, I would have been able to fully experience the deliciousness of Sanuki Marufuji by eating something simple. In the end, it seems that the Kake Udon (260 yen) was the most appealing. ・I had the urge to eat Kake Udon, but when I consulted my partner, he gave me the perfectly reasonable advice, "It's open in the evenings too, so maybe it's best not to...", so I gave up on ordering an additional bowl of Kake Udon this time. ・However, next time I would definitely like to have Kake Udon. ・I feel that perhaps it's only by having it that you can truly experience the true deliciousness of Sanuki Marufuji. ・Sanuki Marufuji is a wonderful place where you can have lunch with Kake Udon and a few side dishes for just 500 yen. I would definitely like to visit again when I come to Kagawa. “ Visited at 11am on a holiday. There were already quite a few customers. Mostly locals. Looks like it could fit 40 to 50 people. Ordered a small bowl of noodles for 270 yen. As soon as they put it on the tray, the smell of dried sardine broth was amazing. I added some spring onions and tempura flakes and ate it. The noodles were soft and a little thin. The broth was the standard dried sardine broth. It was delicious, good value for money. You can use PayPay. Thank you for the meal. ”

“ The situation with lunch udon in the Sakaide area is such that there are lines everywhere during peak times (11:30-12:30) regardless of whether it's a weekday or a holiday, due to the increasing number of closures and holidays. This is also a popular restaurant, and the large parking lot is full, but the turnover is relatively fast, so the queue inside the restaurant is short. This low-priced udon restaurant has an extensive menu, and the secret to its popularity is the extensive side dishes on the menu, which are so good you might think it's a cafeteria. The noodles are slightly thin, but the cold ones have a firm texture, and the hot ones are softer. The broth is not too strong and is slightly sweet, making it easy to eat. The customer service was also good. ”

“ I came here based on word of mouth. While many people were eating hot dishes, I opted for the cold bukkake, topped with kelp, lemon, ginger, and plenty of green onions. For the tempura, I chose the unusual green onion and kelp option. It was delicious and not at all oily. The udon was truly Sanuki udon! Smooth and chewy! The soup had a delicious dashi stock! It was my first time eating Sanuki udon, and I was blown away. I wanted seconds. It was worth the trip. The person sitting next to me was a regular, apparently bringing a friend from Kanto. Like me, her friend was also impressed by the delicious dashi stock. (*´∀`) I was also surprised at how affordable it was. It was lunchtime, so it was crowded, but the turnover was fast and I was able to eat quickly. I'd love to go again. ”

“ Parking is available. In addition to udon and tempura, there is also a wide selection of small side dishes such as fried eggs and potato salad. With rice balls, inari sushi, omelets (or is it omurice?), and other options, it can be hard to choose, so if you go on an empty stomach, you risk losing your judgement. The udon noodles are on the soft side. The soup has a gentle, fragrant bonito flavor and was easy to drink down. The staff were all smiling and pleasant. ”

“ I had a small bowl of hot bukkake udon. It was delicious. The noodles were medium-thin, chewy, and had just the right amount of firmness. The bukkake broth was delicious, with a slight sweetness that went well with the noodles. The staff were cheerful and very friendly. ”

“ It was an hour and a half before closing time and all the meat and tempura had sold out. The noodles were very tasty, but the broth was a bit soy sauce-like. It's worth trying again! The service was very energetic and nice! ”
